2015 - 2016 Scholarship Season

DCF awards students over £12,500 of horticultural scholarshipsOver £12,500 of scholarships has been awarded to nine students studying horticulture by DCF. The awards include the DCF's own Student Scholarships as well as several Sponsored Scholarships from South West Growers Show, Ball Colegrave and British Protected Ornamentals Association - Peter Seabrook. This year also see an award for the Markham-Colegrave Scholarship that supports a study tour to the US. Read more

Following her win of the Floranova Sponsored Scholarship, Opal Rowe, took the opportunity to visit Norfolk and spend a week working at the Floranova UK headquarters. For Opal this was the highlight of the scholarship. Read more

He is completing a NVQ level 3 in Production Horticulture as well as a degree level qualification ‘Master of Horticulture' with the RHS, while also working as a grower at Lovania Nurseries. Six students win horticultural scholarships

Student Scholarship winner Charlotte Bancroft completed an RHS Level 3 certificate in the principles of plant growth, health and propagation at Merrist Wood College, and is completing a three year apprenticeship scheme at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Students win £8,000 of DCF Sponsored ScholarshipsThe DCF has awarded five students £8,000 worth of Sponsored Scholarships from Wyevale Garden Centres, South West Growers Show, British Protected Ornamentals Association/Peter Seabrook, Floranova and Ball Colegrave. Read more

Six students win horticultural scholarships

Following applications from many students, representing 18 colleges across the UK, six students have been awarded £1,000 Student Scholarships by DCF. The DCF is delighted to support the following students: Hannah Schlotter, Capel Manor College; Adam Ferguson, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise; Charlotte Bancroft, Merrist Wood College; James Hayley, Writtle College; and Lydia Mackay and Suzie Irlam, Pershore College. US Student wins Markham-Colegrave Scholarship to Belgium

Victoria Turbyfill, a student of University of Florida, US, has been awarded the $4,500 Markham-Colegrave International Scholarship to enable her to study horticulture in Belgium. Read more

We are pleased to be supporting: Lesley Palmer, Easton and Otley College, with the Floranova Ornamental Horticulture Research Scholarship of £1,500; a Grower's Study Tour, organised by the BPOA and HDC, with the Ball Colegrave Scholarship of £2,500; and Jamie Satterthwaite, Scotland's Rural College, with the British Protected Ornamentals Association - Peter Seabrook Bursary of £1,000. Karen Hook visits Cardiff Castle and Kernock Park PlantsFollowing a scholarship of £750 Karen Hook took the opportunity of a personal study tour to Cardiff in order to view the bedding plants used in its parks and gardens, and to Cornwall where she visited Kernock Park Plants to learn of Instaplant and 3D plant production. Ines Kunzli, scholarship winner and student at Capel Manor College, recently returned from a study tour with Capel Manor during which she viewed six gardens across Cornwall. She shared her experiences with us as well as many beautiful photos. Read more

As part of the DCF's commitment to give support to horticultural colleges, students of Capel College, Middlesex enjoyed a study trip this summer. Read more


DCF takes Wilmington Academy to Kew GardensStudents of Wilmington Academy, Kent enjoyed a trip to Kew Gardens, London and Wakehurst Place, West Sussex earlier this year, with support from the DCF. Read more

2012 - 2013 Scholarships

David Acock tours Europe with Ball Colegrave ScholarshipDavid Acock, a student of Writtle College, has received the Ball Colegrave Scholarship of £2,500. The funding enabled David to travel to Europe in order to develop knowledge and experience in bedding plant production and marketing. Read more

Brooke Gasteyer talks about interning in Europe with the Markham-Colegrave ScholarshipBrooke Gasteyer, a horticulture student at Wisconsin-River Falls University in the US, spent the summer of 2013 interning in Germany after receiving the Markham-Colegrave International Scholarship. Read more


Samantha Jackson benefits from £500 funding to aid horticultural therapy interest

Samantha Jackson, who is completing a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in horticulture at Capel Manor College, has been awarded a College Scholarship of £500 to support her studies. Read more


Karen Hook kick starts her career with Scholarship funding Karen Hook, a BSC (Hons) Horticulture degree student at Writtle College was awarded a £750 College Scholarship to afford her the opportunity to travel to learn about bedding plant production. Read more

Rosanna Goldman receives second scholarship Rosanna Goldman, studying for her BSc in Horticulture at Pershore College, in Worcestershire has received a DCF scholarship for the second time. This year £750 has been awarded to support Rosanna's ambition to run her own business. Read more


Brooke Gasteyer uses award to secure training in Europe

Brooke Gasteyer, a senior studying horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, US, has been awarded the Markham-Colegrave International Scholarship to enable her to study horticulture in Germany. Read more

Matthew Stevenson, a trainee at RHS Wisley on the Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture course, tells how his career was boosted as a result of being awarded a bursary by the DCF while he was a horticultural student at Capel Manor College. Read more


Tim Kerley receives first Markam-Colegrave awardTim Kerley was the first award winner of the David Colegrave-Ed Markham International Scholarship Award in 2006. He is a graduate of Reading University with a BSc. in Horticulture, and had grown up working on his father’s nursery in Cambridgeshire. Read more
